There are two ways you can work with our tax department to get your returns prepared and filed. First, you can elect to purchase one of our tax packages. Why should I complete an organizer?
The entire process of completing your tax return is a joint effort. We work together so that we don’t miss any deductions that you may be entitled to. Our part is to make sure that you only pay your fair share of your tax liability and not a dollar more.
I do my own bookkeeping and have a Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss. Do I still need to complete an organizer?
Yes, you will still need to complete a part of the organizer. Those parts are the Client Statement, Entity Information page and the Ownership Information.
What do I do if I need to file an extension?
We have a specialized form to complete and send in that will list the entities that you wish for us to extend. We will notify you that an extension has been accepted for either you or your entity(s).
How much does the extension request cost?
It is FREE as long as we file your tax return for you. If the extended due date of your return passes and we have not filed your tax return, there will be a small fee.
Can you file my state tax return for me?
Absolutely! Our client base is scattered throughout the United States and abroad. We handle the preparation of all state tax returns and these will be handled along with the preparation of your federal return where applicable.
Am I missing any deductions?
The organizer helps to remind you of some deductions, but your tax professional should alert you to the potential of additional expenses you may be missing. Even though we can’t guarantee a refund, we work with clients to make sure we minimize your tax liability.
I have bought or sold real estate this year. What do you need?
We always need to talk with you about the intent of any real estate purchases made during the year. We also will require a HUD-1 (Closing Statement) for any real estate bought or sold. If you purchase a property on the courthouse steps, we will need your receipt of purchase.
Why do you need to get a copy of last year’s tax return if Anderson did not prepare it?
Many times last year’s tax return provides a segway to the current year’s return. We need to make sure that we recognize and carry over items from the prior year such as Net Operating Losses, Capital Losses or PALs. They may not help us this year, but we sure don’t want to lose their benefit down the road.
What else do I need to provide you with?
We need to obtain the fixed asset schedules from the prior year so that we can accurately calculate the depreciation expense for your business assets.
What about my next year’s estimated tax payments?
As an integrated part of your comprehensive tax preparation service, we will prepare estimated tax coupon vouchers for you for the upcoming year if applicable. And remember, always contact us when you are considering any event that may be taxable as it is much better to plan before an event is completed than after it.
